“When I was asked to create a cocktail that conjures up the image of Nihonbashi-bijin, I thought at first I should create a Japanese-style cocktail based on sake. However, knowing the concept of Nihonbashi-bijin, I suddenly hit upon the idea of using Macadia, a much-talked-about new liqueur in terms of health,” said Mr. Yasuhiro Goto, the chief bartender at the Royal Park Hotel. On the counter of the bar in the hotel are many shiny trophies, proof of his having reached the top in Japan. Mr. Goto, who often creates a cocktail under the theme of women actresses, says that he created the Nihonbashi-bijin Cocktail by combining the image of Nihonbashi-bijin, a woman who pays special attention to both health and beauty, with Macadia, a new type healthy liqueur.
Macadia is a liqueur made by blending maca, a healthy food material from ancient times grown in the Andean highlands of South America, and rose hips. Maca, which contains essential amino acids and has an analeptic effect, controls the balance of hormones. Rose hips contain vitamin C–so much so that it is called the “Vitamin C Bomb.” Despite containing so many medicinal properties, Macadia has a fruity taste and flavor, growing in popularity among women. Nihonbashi-bijin Cocktail, with Macadia as the base, has a very romantic, pale ruby color from cranberry and contains the antioxidant polyphenol for anti-aging. In addition, the cocktail has the sweetness of Peach Tree and the fresh flavor of grapefruit juice, that is, it is mild and, at the same time, sharp in taste. A red flower floating in the cocktail glass inspires us with the spirit of women who are always stylish even when very busy. He says that many more women come to the bar alone these days.
